Allegorical statues

Above the cornice of the shield are two allegorical stone figures representing Faith and Love, with a reclining Bohemian lion on a pedestal between them; these were installed in 1889 by the sculptor Seeling to replace the old, damaged statues…

…Through a portal, you enter the garden surrounding the old, damaged statues of two angels and the Bohemian lion, which originally stood on the church’s gable until 1889 and now lie here on the grass…”

Stará Praha, 1902 (J. Herain, V. Jansa).

This description of the Church of St. John of Nepomuk on the Rock, found in the book „Stará Praha“ by Jaroslav Herain and illustrated with watercolors by Václav Jansa from 1902, reveals that these original statues from the west facade of our church have stood here next to the entrance to the garden for more than a century, awaiting their fate to this day.

The angel with the cross represents faith, while the angel with a trumpet represents love and the good reputation of John of Nepomuk, which he proclaims to the world.

Answer to the question:
The statues are not inside the church, but are located on the west facade above the main entrance, between the two church towers.
